A performing day of a Band student
December 2025 was a very busy month for me. I was running a fundraising event during the same week that our band was preparing for a concert with the famous Houston Symphonic Band, while also studying for my upcoming midterms. Balancing all of these responsibilities was stressful, but it was also a meaningful experience for me.
Our band, especially our passionate conductor, Mrs. Siler Hunt, was understandably nervous about the concert because it was our first time performing alongside such an experienced and well-known ensemble. Because of this, we practiced almost every day after school to make sure every detail in the music was played as accurately as possible. Mrs. Hunt often reminded us that since she also conducts the Houston Symphonic Band, she would be especially strict with us. She also emphasized that performing in a church, with a large and attentive audience, required extra preparation and focus.
What surprised me most was that our performance day happened right before my first midterm exam. Even though I was very worried about my AP Psychology exam the next day, I truly enjoyed performing with my band friends. Being on stage helped me forget about the stress for a moment and made me even more passionate about band. This experience pushed me to do my best to balance academics and music, and it reminded me how much I enjoy performing.
