University meeting

University meeting

Today I had my first one-on-one university meeting. Instead of sitting in a big group at a school visit, I got to talk directly with an admissions officer and ask my own questions.

Before the meeting, I was really nervous. I had no idea what it would be like, how long it would last, or what they would ask me.

The first school I met with was UT Austin. I spent the whole week researching, so I would know to ask anything I could just Google. I saw it as a chance to practice my research, think critically, and come up with good questions
After a few more meetings, you find a side of the school you can’t find online. When I met with Trinity, the officer told us about a new scholarship that had been made, and we were one of the first schools to hear about it. Officers also share real stories from current students, the kind of thing this website does. These meetings help me understand the real pros and cons of each school, not just what’s in the brochure.
If you’re about to have a young child, my advice is to do a lot of research. The more you know about the school, the easier it is to follow the conversation. As you’re in the room, you’ll feel more relaxed than you expect. But most importantly, think about yourself too. Know what they ask, you’ll be ready to answer.
