IB ESS Conserving Snow Leopard Campaign

IB ESS Conserving Snow Leopard Campaign

Last week in my IB Environmental Systems and Societies class, we were discussing a new project where we could create a video, presentation, or campaign about an environmental issue. After thinking about different topics, I decided to focus on snow leopard conservation because I realized how important and urgent it is to protect this species. Snow leopards are an endangered animal, but many people still don’t know much about them or the threats they face.

First, I started doing deeper research about snow leopards using information from Snow Leopard Trust and other conservation websites. I learned about their habitat in the mountains of Central Asia and the challenges they face, such as poaching, climate change, and conflicts with local herders. I also looked at population data and why snow leopards are considered an important keystone species in their ecosystem.

After researching, I began creating materials for my campaign. I designed several infographics and posters that explain what snow leopards are, why they are important for biodiversity, and what problems are causing their population to decline. I also created social media style posts that are easier for people to read quickly and share. In these posts I included facts, pictures, and short messages encouraging people to care about snow leopard conservation.

Besides that, I also worked on spreading awareness online. I posted my campaign materials on the Mayflower Teach for All website, where students can share ideas and projects. The goal was to increase recognition about snow leopards and encourage more people to learn about protecting endangered animals. I also tried to make the designs more eye-catching so people would actually stop and read them.

During this project, I realized that conservation is not only about scientists doing research. Education and awareness are also very important, because many environmental problems happen when people do not understand the impact of their actions. By creating posters, infographics, and posts, I hope more people will start to care about snow leopards and understand why protecting them matters for the ecosystem.

This campaign helped me understand how communication can be a powerful tool in environmental protection, and it also made me more interested in wildlife conservation in the future.
